I love a small business that has great ideas. I recently left Affordable Appliances Inc. with refurbished washer and dryer units that were even nicer than the ones I had previously. It was a great way to save money, help the environment a bit by reusing appliances, and support a wonderful local business.

My experience was so fantastic that I wanted to bring you some information about the business today. In order to do so, I met with Wayne at Affordable Appliances Inc., located at 216 Rand Rd. (Illinois Route 120) in Lakemoor, Illinois, for a conversation about how they refurbish appliances and pass along the savings to customers. Check out what they have at 1:06 in the video!

I also spoke with Jeri, the other half of the business, who told me about the store’s history. Wayne and Jeri used to buy and sell storage lockers, but when TV shows such as “Storage Wars” became popular, they had to make a decision to either face increased competition or begin a new business.

When the business first started, they began by selling to members of their church. Of course, refurbishing and selling appliances wasn’t their only goal. Wayne and Jeri also wanted to be environmentally conscious, to help people, and to make a living. Since their humble beginnings in 2011, their endeavors have grown into a thriving business with its own storefront. They find appliances to refurbish from foreclosures, landlords, and donations.

If the drive is a bit too far for you, they deliver and even install appliances for a minimal fee. They also come out and make repairs for their clients, and everything comes with a 90-day warranty.
